PROCESS:

These illustrations weave together abstract forms, each piece capturing fragments of a larger story. Despite their differences, they share a common thread—expressing the raw emotions and enduring spirit of those who suffered through the unthinkable. My hope is that, as you stand before them, you might hear the unspoken voices, feel the weight of their emotions, and connect, even for a moment, with the profound resilience of those who were so deeply affected by the Nazi occupation.

TECHNIQUE:

These pieces were hand drawn as a single continuous outline without lifting the pen.

Each drawing recounts the cumulative story of many of the holocaust survivors I had the privilege to sit with such that each drawing represents many stories threaded together.

INTENT:

This style pays tribute to the memory of those lost during the occupation in the following 4 ways:

  1. Paying homage to the continuous day in and day out survival of those held in captivity.

  2. The stark lines act as a remembrance of the constant line ups in the camp

  3. The filled shapes are a reminder of the triangles and star patches inmates had sewn on their clothing.

  4. The shapes remind us of the metal work signs that were created for the death camps by prisoners skilled in Metalwork and welding - they survived because they had value to the nazi’s for this skill..
